Miranda defected from Cuba—where he had played for Team Cuba and for Pinar del Río in the Cuban National Series—in 2004. After establishing residency in the Dominican Republic, he signed a free agent deal with the New York Yankees before the 2007 season. He made his Major League debut for the Yankees in September, 2008, and recorded his first big league home run against Tampa Bay on October 2, 2008. Otherwise, Juan spent most of his time in the Yankees' organization with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre of the International League. He was traded by New York to Arizona after the 2010 season.

The Rays signed Miranda as a free agent to a minor league contract on with an invitation to spring training on December 6, 2011. He was assigned to Triple-A Durham to begin the season. He was released on June 9, 2012.[1]
