Timothy John Laker (born November 27, 1969, in Encino, CA) was a catcher for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
Laker holds the distinction of hitting the first home run (of two he hit that game) for Durham in their first game at the Triple-A level.[1] His contract was purchased by Tampa Bay on May 26, 1998 after the Devil Rays' regular catcher, John Flaherty, was placed on the disabled list.[2] He made 3 Major League appearances with Tampa Bay before being designated for assignment on June 20 and granted free agency a few days later.[3]
Laker returned to the organization before the 2005 season and was, again, slated to start the season in the minors. He was selected from Durham's roster on April 8 (the day after their season opened) when Tampa Bay placed Charles Johnson on the restricted list. He made one appearance before being designated for assignment on April 12 and returned to the Bulls for the remainder of the season.[4]
Laker was later named in the Mitchell Report and admitted to the purchase and use of testosterone several times between the 1995 through 2000 seasons.[5]
