Montgomery (0-2) lost another extra-innings affair to Mobile, 9-4 in 13 innings: Recap, Box.

Was listening to the last 5 or so innings online, and that 13th inning sure sounded ugly. Matt Fields homered; Justin Garcia was the sacrificial pitcher in the end.

Montgomery (2-2) evened up their record with another win over Mobile, overcoming a blown save, 5-4: Recap, Box.

SP David Newmann worked an efficient 7 shutout innings on only 65 pitches, and was staked to a 3-run lead. Gorgen gave up 4 (3 earned, courtesy of a dropped fly to Ryan Royster) over the 8th and 9th innings, though. The Biscuits used a two-out rally to tie in the 9th, then won thanks in part to a throwing error by Mobile 3B Taylor Harbin.

SS Shawn O'Malley was 3-4 with 2 SB; 2B Cody Cipriano went 3-4 with a 2B and a SB. That's a pretty nice middle infield to start the season with in Montgomery, I think.

I'd kind of like to see him in Durham working from the pen for a little bit, but the sooner he can prove to the RFO that he's ready the better.

Very encouraging. It would be nice if he turned out to be even remotely useful at the ML level.

April 18:

Montgomery (6-4) lost a 2-run lead over Carolina in the ninth inning, 8-7: Recap, Box

They retained a 5-4 lead until Alonso homered of Garcia to lead off Carolina's 7th. Montgomery responded in the top of the 8th with 2 runs, but RP Ryan Reid couldn't hang on to it, giving up a 3-spot with the assistance of a wild pitch, a hit batsman, and an intentional walk. C Ian Paxton made his 3rd appearance of the season, going 2-3 with 3 RBI.
