Welcome to RaysBB

We're not open. We don't know when we're going to be open. What are you doing here?

What Happened?

To what? The old RaysBB forum? Oh, several things. The board still exists for now (raysbb.com/phpBB3), but is closed to new registrations. Eventually, it will be removed altogether.

This is a soft-launch of the new RaysBB.

What's Planned?

  • A repository of information and minutiae related to the Tampa Bay Rays.
  • Potentially interesting things.
  • Random this n' that.

What's the Point?

The cataloging of all sorts of information related to the Tampa Bay Rays organization into a single, more-convenient location. We're not looking to replace the myriad of Rays-related websites and fora, just provide a suitable location for bringing together a lot of information that is scattered, unorganized or inconvenient.

Wait a minute, something's not right...

This project is being run with MediaWiki software, the same stuff that powers places like Wikipedia. It is not, however, a free-for-all, not does it try to accomplish what Wikipedia is already doing so well. For one, there isn't a large enough user base (yet) to become effectively self-policing. For another, there's going to be information here that probably wouldn't pass muster on Wikipedia's "notability" requirements. So here we are.

Awesome! I wanna help!

Awesome! Let me know with an email to admin at raysbb dot com. The help of anyone familiar with the (Devil) Rays organization, has experience with the MediaWiki platform, a decent eye for editing and/or data entry would be welcome. If you're OK putting together templates and navigation schemes, that's even more awesome. If you happen to have a lot of info on a minor league affiliate or just happen to love one particular obscure player or can expound at-length on the subtle uniform differences between the 2002 and 2003 Devil Rays seasons, we'll find a place for it.

General Expectations

At a minimum, I'd like to see an entry on every player to play in a game for a Rays or Rays-affiliated team. Not necessarily a whole novel, just acknowledgement that they played.

Ideally, box scores for all games possible (no problem for the big league team, thanks to awesome resources like RetroSheet, but in general it's much more difficult the lower in the minors and further back you go). Real, researched information that covers a wide range of topics.

Apart from that, we'll see what happens.

I know that I would not like to see a bunch of articles a la many on Sons of Sam Horn's wiki (for example, pages on various players' wives, the relative attractiveness of various Red Sox-related television personalities, pictures of a high school pole-vaulter with no discernible relationship to baseball at all). Don't get me wrong; among all the cruft, there's actually some decent information buried in SoSH's wiki. However, it's more like an extension of a locker room than a respectable depository of data.

So What if You Threw a Party and Nobody Came?

I'm not worried about that. Even if I'm the only one here, I'll be chugging along. It'll just take longer by myself.
